Hi there! My name is Andreu and I am an Account Manager for Global Voices UK! Here’s my story:
Life before Global Voices
I was born and bred in Barcelona, Spain, where I attended primary and secondary school until I was 18. I then moved to Scotland’s beautiful capital, Edinburgh, to pursue my undergraduate degree in International Business Management with Chinese. Having recently graduated with a First-Class Honours degree, I have also briefly worked as an Account Manager for a short-term rentals firm in Edinburgh.
How it all Began
Upon graduating, I started actively looking for a sales position within an industry of particular interest to me. I came across Global Voices’ job advert on LinkedIn while on holiday in Spain, and given my long-standing interest in languages and being fluent in 5 of them, it seemed like it was the ideal fit. Having just submitted my CV, I received a call from GV shortly after and had a video-interview 2 days later. 20 minutes after the interview, I got the job!
Since joining, I have been working closely with the various teams across the company (i.e Project Analysts, Project Managers, Linguists, Operations and so forth) to better familiarise myself with the incredible work we do as a company. What is most exciting about this role is that no two days are the same! From replying to translation/interpretation enquiries to dinging the ‘big bell’ when a sale comes in, through following up and negotiating quotes with clients from a range of different industries and countries, this role allows you to maximise your interpersonal skills whilst working within a highly international and friendly team!
Who Should Apply
If you enjoy having daily contact with customers, have a keen interest in languages and enjoy working within a fast-paced yet diverse environment, I would strongly urge you to apply for this job! I look forward to working with your international and friendly team!
Hi there! My name is Silvia and I am a Project Manager for Global Voices UK! Here’s my story:
Life Before Global Voices
Always fascinated by languages and foreign cultures from a young age, I pursued my academic career in Interpreting and Translation in Padua, Italy, where I graduated as a linguist for English/German into Italian. During these years, I learnt about the world of LSPs and project management as a possible career path instead of freelance interpreter/translator, one that could better fit my analytical but outgoing personality.
How it all Began
I have always known that I wanted to challenge myself with a working experience abroad. While I was completing my third year at university, our career advisor approached students with the possibility of carrying out an internship in a foreign country of our choice, within the Erasmus + programme. At that time, Global Voices was partnering with my university and that seemed like the perfect opportunity for me! I sent my CV and cover letter to the company and, shortly after, I have been advised that I had been accepted to start an internship just a few weeks later.
I initially started as a translation project manager assistant, but then I quickly transitioned into interpretation, where I had the chance to actually start my own department: after working on my own the first couple of years, as the company grew I had the fantastic opportunity to shape my own team of project managers, servicing clients all around the world. After almost 6 years, I am a senior project manager and I supervise a team of 9 employees, providing interpreters for a wide array of jobs across the world, from medical appointments to multi-lingual high-level conferences.
We normally call our team the “emergency department”, due to the very urgent requirements for interpreters we get on a daily basis, but we all enjoy the thrill we get from the pressure, as well as the customer satisfaction after we have exceeded their expectations and managed to pull off projects that at first looked impossible!
Who Should Apply
Being a dynamic, fast-paced, multicultural workplace, Global Voices is ideal for anyone looking for a new challenge every day, a non-stop learning experience for both young graduates and experienced professionals. Whether you work in account management, project management or any other departments within the company, you will always feel included and part of the team or, as we like to call it, the GV family!
I joined Global Voices in December 2018 and was immediately struck by the career progression opportunities available. My line manager provided me with a clear and detailed progression plan, so I knew my career pathway right from the outset. I was promoted in May after moving departments and have been provided with continuous training and support throughout my journey.
Working within Global Voices has been an invaluable experience which creates many opportunities for individuals to stand out and be rewarded for their hard work. While working in Global Voices, there has always been a strong sense of unity by working alongside a group of reliable and professional individuals. I would strongly encourage anyone seeking to enhance their career prospects and looking for job satisfaction working in a diverse and thriving environment to apply or reach our to the Talent Acquisition team.
I’ve been working in Global Voices for almost 2 years and what I like the most is its friendly and multi-cultural environment that allows me to interact with several professionals all around the globe. Global Voices really cares about its employees and gives huge opportunities to grow professionally. There is no other company which I would prefer to work for.
Having joined Global Voices straight from University, I quickly progressed within my role as Account Manager to Head of our German and UK client-facing teams. Opportunity for progression within a company has always been an important trait for me and GV have gone above and beyond to equip me with the skills and knowledge needed to get where I want to be.
I joined Global Voices to expand our operations and found myself in exactly the right place to take on an exciting new challenge. Every day we are encouraged to create opportunities and solutions. We are an eclectic team from all over the world, working together and sharing skills and experience to make a difference in global communication.
Global Voices offers great opportunities for career progression and gives you the chance to work in an eclectic and multicultural team. I personally had the chance to develop my professional experience and to be promoted 4 times up to my current position as Head of Account Management for both our French and Italian client-facing teams. Working in and experiencing Global Voices now for over 6 and a half years, I can say with great confidence; there is no other place I would rather work! We are family here, all pushing in the same direction towards our goals.
The Global Voices philosophy is very clear; do what you must to do win. It is this founding principle which underpins all we do. We want to continue to build a culture where the best ideas and solutions win out, for the benefit of our global client base and the continued progress of our business. Global Voices is not a static place; you are always motivated to do the very best you can; and for those that do, spectacular career progression within one of the most exciting companies in Scotland awaits!
