Learning a new language can be both challenging and hugely rewarding. There are many reasons why we choose to learn a new language, be it for business, personal development or just for holidays! However learning a new language can be difficult so here are some tips on learning a second language:

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

When learning you are bound to make mistakes, but this is ok, don’t be embarrassed it is how we all learn. The important way of dealing with mistakes is to understand why you made the mistake you did and how did you correct it so that you don’t make the same mistake again.

Practice Practice Practice

Whether this is speaking to a mother tongue speaker, practising on family or visiting the country, get plenty of practice. Put yourself into situations which you may find embarrassing but will challenge you to try out your new knowledge.

Speak to a mother tongue speaker

If you can, find someone who has a mother tongue in the language, this way you can practice on them without getting too embarrassed! If you don’t know a family member or colleague who speaks the language, try advertising in the small ads or find a contact online.

Carry a dictionary

Or at least have easy access to one. This way if you forget a word whilst you are in conversation, you can quickly find the word you are looking for. You can instantly learn the work and keeps your vocabulary fresh.

Take it Mobile

There are a range of apps and programmes available for you to learn the new language easily whilst on the move. From Babbel to Duolingo there are plenty of great apps and programmes for you to learn your new language… for free.

Well… What are you waiting for? Get out there and start learning!
